Painting Process

I first created a new layer after checking my background to be at lock mode. Using the polygonal lasso tool, I drew around the hand and colored it peach using the brush tool. As you can see, I used different shadings in order to make it look more realistic. As for the nail, i painted it pink by using the same tools.

Next, after creating another layer, I outlined the outer tablet by using the polygonal lasso tool and then by using the brush tool, i painted it black in color. To get a straight line, I had to use the tool while holding the "Shift" button. I then outlined the parts i want to erase the color black off. The third layer was the coloring of the inner tablet by using the grey brush tool.

After creating a new layer, I then move on to the coloring of the globe. I used different shades of green to create an effect with the help of the lasso tool and the brush tool. Different shades of blue was then used to color the ocean.

Moving on to painting the yellow color and the red color to finish up the globe.

Furthermore, the screws and clockworks were then colored in different colors such as different tones of brown, grey, black, dirty green etc using the. Many different layers were made to complete this section.

I also made the edges of my design more fine by clicking on the "Filter" then "Stylize" and finally "Find Edges".

I then decided to use different color of paint and brush it around the human head shape to give it a more abstract effect. I then use the Smudge Tool to blend the colors together by dragging the mousing at different direction.

As for the lines on the top right of my design, I used a gradient effect of blue and white. I adjusted the style to be "Linear" and the angle in different angles for each and put them under the "Screen" effect.

However, I did not like the outcome of my design and decided to change. So i deleted the layer of the human head shape and start over. I then used the polygonal lasso tool to create squares for the technological icons of my design. I then selected an orange-yellow gradient for it and put it on "Difference" effect.

I then used the lasso tool to outline again the human shape and give it a purple gradient effect and put it under "Multiply" with opacity being at a 100%.

My background was inverted to have a darker and black effect in order to finish up with completion.

I then resized my design into A2 by using the crop tool and adjusting it to 16.53 x 23.39 inches as requested. Lastly, I saved in to PSD and JPEG file and submit it via e-mail.

Sketches

Title of Assignment : How Technology Affects Human

This is my first sketch where it shows at a modern age room where technologies are placed around.

My second sketch shows the same scene which is at the train station but in a different time of the age. On the left is the old age when technology was not so advance and on the right shows the modern age of advance technology.

My third sketch shows a boy being attach to the newly invented technologies. It represents how technology has grown into us and become part of our lives and has created an addiction.

My fourth sketch has buildings, factories, airplanes, space shuttle and the satellite above the earth. An arrow was also drawn to represent that we can stay connected with people all around the world. It shows how technology has changed our lifestyles.
Rough sketches of hand and globe drawings

My final sketch represents the human mind being so capable of inventing and creating technologies around us that have affected our lives. Ideas are running in the human brain everyday thinking of new ways to improve our lifestyles. Typography

Using the graph paper provided in class, we are to construct a typeface of our names in any form of design we like.

Design Using Principles and Elements

This design was done by me using the design principles such as balance, harmony, unity and variety.
This design gives a sense of balance whereby both sides are at equilibrium and harmony is achieved as there is a repetition of patterns. Unity gives this design a more organized look and variety because it consisted of differences which gives it a more enhancement to the design.
Design elements used were lines, shapes, texture and colour.
The lines elements can be seen in the top left and bottom right corner whereby it goes in a zig-zag pattern while the shapes used were circles to form a bubble shape. The texture of this shape is seen to be shiny and smooth like bubbles. The colour used are mainly secondary colours.

National art gallery

Upon visiting the National Art Gallery, Kuala Lumpur, the paintings that caught my eyes are located at the Absurd[c]ity section where it consists of arts and paintings of the modern age or the 21st century.

The first painting I saw was designed by Muhd Sarip Abd Rahman and was completed in the year 2010. The title of it is R.I.P and it is 305 x 152cm big.
my first impression of this design is that it takes up a form or a shape of a standing human being (man). However, it has a body that is made of machinery parts like a robot. It is very similar to the robot in the movie Transformers by the name of Optimus Prime as it is blue and red in color. Besides that, it is wearing a pair of grey croc shoes with a Superman shoe accessory on it and a real silver tie was placed on his neck. Above its head consists of helium balloons and this man looks weak or dead by his facial expression.
So, this painting tells me that technology has been advancing in the recent years and it is taking over mankind's life as we know it. We can tell that this man was once human as he is wearing a tie and a pair of croc shoes, however he is trapped inside a robot's body. By his facial expression, he is dying in the hands of technology as the title says "R.I.P". The helium balloons symbolizes that this man wants to be free and not wanting techonogy to take over him. There is also a price tag on his left ear which gives the impression that he has to pay a price for every wrong move.
We as human beings should not depend on technology so much and instead, backtrack our traditional way of life in order to see the beauty of the world. Our world does not only consist of machines and technologies. Yes, the new medias have become a part of our lives but let us not forget our true identity and the purpose of living.
